WELCOME to NSOMS

This is an open welcome to the homepage of the National Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (NSOMS).  Congratulations must be extended to the legacy of the founders and their mission to promote and support current and future under-represented minority Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

 

The NSOMS continues to serve as a cohesive force for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of a common heritage and provides opportunities for social and professional development. The membership ardently participates in the committee and scientific activities of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, focusing on addressing the needs of under-served communities, and increasing the number of clinically competent and socially conscious African American Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

We have created a diverse community of talented individuals, built around academic success. One of our current goals is development of an effective mentorship program for underrepresented minorities, reaching out to college and high school counselors and students to create a support group for facilitation of pathways into the health care industry that can be handed down year after year with projected extension to ensuing generations.

This is an entreaty for you to join NSOMS. The annual dues enable the society to finance its day-to-day operations, while providing networking opportunities for the membership.

OUR MISSION

To promote the participation of minority oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the general activities and health care of underserved and minority communities and to increase minority leadership in health care institutions, educational institutions and professional associations, positioning them to influence and change the recruitment, training and retention of  minority health care providers with the ultimate goal to foster genuine progress in the quality of life and oral care in all communities.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The NSOMS members and executives regularly participate in educational and clinical activities within their communities in regional hospitals, clinics, and non-profit organizations such as Remote Area Medical,  Mission of Mercy, Bright Smiles Bright Future  and Great Shape in order to provide care for the under-served.
